Principal’s Message
Demonstrating Achievement
April is DATA month! There are many standardized tests where our students will be able to demonstrate their academic growth. LEAP, iLEAP, Iowa, Performance Testing, the Scholastic Reading Inventory, DIBLES and other assessments will give us needed data to chart growth and plan for the future. This is a critical time of year for our students. All students need to come on time each school day prepared to do their very best work. The tone for the school day begins at home and then is reinforced during our morning announcements. Please make sure your home routine supports our students getting the best possible start to their day. We expect our students to do well on all of the tests. Our staff has worked very diligently filling the learning gaps and pushing each student to his or her potential. Encourage your child to take the tests very seriously but not to become overly anxious. This is a wonderful learning environment and we are pleased with the progress of our students! April is the month to demonstrate that progress to the District and State.
Academic Games
The following students will be representing BFE at the Academic Games National Tournament later this month: Xunzi Hou, Elizabeth Harding, and Kimani Coye. Congratulations on being model Benjamin Franklin students!! Safe travels and good luck!!!!
Junior Achievement
We are partners with Junior Achievement. Our fifth grade students participated in Biz Town in March. Our middle school students will have the opportunity to attend Finance Park this June. Our Pre- Kindergarten through fourth grade students will have JA Day later this month. Volunteer!!!
Fourth Quarter Push
The end of the school year will be here before you know it. We are getting busier and busier as our school days are numbered. Please talk with your child about the importance of staying organized and on top of school assignments. The fourth quarter can make a big difference in a student’s yearly average. Some students are working very hard to bring up their academic average. Some students are not paying enough attention to their academics which may hurt their yearly average. In elementary schools, the only grades that are recorded on the cumulative folder are the end of year averages for promotional subjects. Please make sure your child is doing everything possible to have a positive fourth quarter.
School Improvement
April and May are the months we begin to reflect on what has gone very well, and what we would like to do differently next school year. Parental input is very important as we strive to meet the needs of every student academically and individually. Please plan to join us at our April PTO/Title I meeting, April 9th at 5:30 in the Jefferson cafeteria and give your input for our 2013- 2014 planning.
