Principal’s Message
Happy New Year to all of our Benjamin Franklin Families! Let’s resolve to make this our most loving, productive, and hopeful year ever. We are halfway through the school year and at a critical juncture for our students. One semester is over and we have only a part of a semester to make sure our students are ready for the state mandated tests which judge student and school progress. We are also in the process of transitioning to a Charter school. The time is right for us to charter prior to the reunification of schools in the OPSB. Our school will remain the same with our excellent staff, administrators, and support personnel. One big difference is that we will have much more control over our resources and a better ability to attract more resources locally, regionally, and nationally. We will meet Tuesday, 1-17 at 6:00 at the Jefferson Campus to get an update on the process. I need our Benjamin Franklin Family to get behind this transition to a better BFE! Thank you for your support. Please use the links below to access feedback forms regarding this transition process.
Report Card Conferences
It is very important that you are aware of your child’s progress in school. Wednesday, January 18th we will be distributing report cards between 4:00 and 6:00 PM. If your child is in danger of failing due to not meeting state attendance requirements, and/or academic requirements you will be asked to sign a Student Study Educational Plan. The teacher will recommend interventions that will be done in the classroom and also things that need to be done away from school to help your child succeed.
Students of the Year!
Each year we select one fifth grade student and one eight grade student as Student of the Year. There were two students eligible from each campus to compete for this honor. They are Ivan Barrosse and Elijah Armour from fifth grade and Nioni Gibson and Keyshyne Washington from eighth grade. Unfortunately, we are only able to submit one student from each grade. It was a close competition, but after review of the academic, attendance, and discipline data, Ivan Barrosse and Nioni Gibson will be our BFE representatives to compete for the Orleans Parish Student of the Year. We are proud of each student in the competition and expect to see great things from them. They are true examples of the Benjamin Franklin Way!
New Year’s Resolutions
It is that time again when we set goals for ourselves and endeavor to keep them longer than the month of January. We all know the feeling of meeting a goal. Children also celebrate their accomplishments, especially when their parents are acknowledging it. This year, take time to set goals with your children and then acknowledge their successes, along with reinforcing the resolutions that need more attention.
