Principal’s Message
A Season for Gratitude!
What a glorious season! We have so many reasons to be thankful, not just for the obvious blessings like food and shelter, but for the multitude of things that we often take for granted. From home to school to work to play, let’s take time from our usual routines to look for good and positive things and give thanks.
We are well into the school year, and by now you should be very familiar with your children’s school routine and their social and academic progress. Please make sure your child is completing all of the assigned homework as well as reading each night. Parents of prekindergarten and kindergarten children should be reading nightly to their child and students in grades 1 – 6 should be reading to parents or other family members. Reinforcing the reading habit at home will reap benefits at school.
Reading is Power!
Holiday Mail for Heroes
Our Brownie Troop 40189 is sponsoring a holiday card drive to give our men and women serving in the armed forces a little touch of home during the holidays. Sponsored by the Red Cross, the Holiday Mail for Heroes initiative collects and distributes holiday cards to American service members, veterans and their families in the United States and around the world. From now until Friday, December 2nd, our Brownie troop will be collecting cards in decorated boxes on the second floor of the school. Here’s how you can help: First, create a card from scratch or on the computer, or use a pre-made holiday greeting card. Then, write a brief message to the troops sending them thanks, encouragement, and holiday cheer. Finally, have your child drop off the card(s) in the designated box at school. This is a wonderful initiative that our Brownie troop is supporting. I hope we all give them ours.
Enrichment Fee
We are thankful for our families that have paid the enrichment fee of $50.00 for this school year. If you have not paid the enrichment fee, please do so as soon as possible. We have obligated ourselves to the vendors supplying our school with the enrichment items like ID’s, scholastic magazines, web based programs, field trip tee shirts to name a few. Compared to the enrichment fees and budgets from surrounding schools, ours is a bargain! You are able to pay in increments, so PLEASE support your school and enable us to continue to provide the extras that make our school exceptional.
Kid Biz, Lexiles & Reading
All of our students in grades 2 – 6 are utilizing the Kid Biz program at school and we are encouraging students to use the program at home as well. A letter was sent home including your child’s log on and program tips. Please encourage your child to log on at home and you can check out the program, too. A student’s reading growth is measured in Lexiles. We will be discussing Lexiles at the next Title I parent meeting, 5:00 November 8th in the Extension cafeteria directly before the PTO meeting where we will celebrate our students’ first quarter success. Hope to see you there!!
