·         Parent Volunteers made a big difference at our school. Congratulations and thank you to
·         Mr. Peter Sylvester, Parent Volunteer of the Year.
·         Community Volunteers made a big difference, too. Congratulations and thank you to
·         Mrs. Terry Gay, Community Volunteer of the Year at the Nashville Campus
·         Mrs. Denise Holmes, Community Volunteer of the Year at the Jefferson Campus
·         Teacher of the Year, Ms. Mia Rotondo is a finalist for the New Orleans Excellence in Teaching Award!
·         In her first year at BFE, Ms. Lucille McWilliams was elected Para Professional of the Year.
·         Our Students of the Year were honored at the April OPSB Board Meeting.
·         Students improved in Performance Series, Roots, DIBELS, and DIAL testing, and Achieve 3000 usage.
·         Our SFA National Point Coach gave accolades to us for instructional processes and student engagement in our Reading Block.
·         The Loyola Music Therapy Program provided musicians for our ECS classes at the Jefferson Campus.
·         Grandparents’ Day spanned three days and we had over 400 grandparents in attendance.
·         Our Come Play with the Bears KaBOOM Community Play Day was well attended and continues to expand.
·         The Tulane Muralist Class completed their fourth BFE mural under the direction of Professor Mysock.
·         Mama Maji reconfigured our edible garden area to make it more of a teaching space and provided teachable lessons to PK – 5th.
·         Our Pollinator Garden was donated by Bayer through 4H and made WGNO TV’s News with a Twist.
·         Our students performed very well at the Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair.
·         More students than ever participated in the Louisiana State Science Fair and we took a first place!
·         Our Playworks program taught our students cooperative play and trained Junior Coaches.
·         Over twenty high schools participated in our High School Invitational for our eighth grade class.
·         We took first place in the Paul Robeson Monologue Contest.
·         Students are taking classes at NOCCA for Dance and Music.
·         Our Environmental Awareness/International Day was an outstanding success.
·         Our Cox Inspirational Hero was presented at the Pontchartrain Center.
·         Grades PK – 5th participated in Protecting You, Protecting Me from Action Against Addiction.
·         One student has a summer internship at City Hall with Councilwoman Nadine Ramsey.
·         We had many students place in the 911 Poster Contest.
·         We will have two Assistant Principals, one for each campus. Mrs. Logan Jones has been promoted as one!
·         Thank you to our club and activity sponsors for Academic Games, Cub Scouts, Debate Team, Daisy Troop, Yoga, 4 – H, Recycling, Color Guard, Majorettes, Cheerleaders, Dance Team, First Lego League Robotics , SWAT, Black History Club, and Jewelry Making.
·         Students participated in our Recycling Program and helped the environment.
·         Our Student Council made a difference in the community with Second Harvesters Food Drive.
·         Our students and staff raised $1437.71 for United Way, $542.57 for Breast Cancer Research, $275.75 for the Autism Society, $350 for Caps for Kids, and $595.77 for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, and $350 for Jeans for Troops.
·         Kingsley House, Boys and Girls Club and Israelite Baptist Church provided after care services.
·         Our sports teams - Flag Football, Basketball, and Track had great seasons.
·         Our students created new cheers for our morning announcements and class/school celebrations.
·         There are many other groups and activities that made a difference at our school: Baton Rouge Playmakers, Jazz Fest Banners, Butterfly Project and Garden, Ronald McDonald. Officer Friendly, Title I Parent meetings, Math Mondays, PLC’s, Title II Workshops; Visit by local Judges to the Middle School; Stair Tutoring; UNO Tutoring; Dads Duty Day, StarBase, Birthday Celebrations, Field Trips, Parenting Center School Fair, Black History Activities and Performances, Honor Choir, Trunk or Treat, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, Project Lead the Way, Pelicans Fan Day, Poydras House Service Project, Sock Drive, Celebration in the Oaks, Children’s Hospital Toy Drive, Winter Showcase, Student Recognition, Middle School Science Fair, 100th Day of School, SFA, Reading Stars Celebration, Morning Meetings, Character Dress Up, Spirit Days, Principal’s Honor Roll Luncheon, Student Awards, Tulane CACTUS, Santa Pictures, Easter Bunny Pictures, Red Ribbon Week, Book Fair, our new nurses, and PTO.
