Principal’s Message

Strengthen the Collaboration!

Welcome to the 2015- 2016 school year at Benjamin Franklin Elementary Mathematics and Science School. We are happy that you have made the decision to trust us with your child’s education. It is always an exciting time when we have a new beginning. Our theme this school year is Strengthen the Collaboration! It is my hope that all of our families will get involved with our activities throughout the year. Our emphasis is on collaboration. Research has found that the following leads to better prepared and more successful students: parents partnering with teachers, helping with homework, volunteering, and attending parent teacher conferences. There will be many, many opportunities for parent involvement this school year. Dionya Mills, our parent liaison, will be your link to volunteerism at Franklin. Please check the calendar each month to see what activities we have and GET INVOLVED!!!

We welcome our new Superintendent, Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr. to our OPSB family. Dr. Lewis is a hands-on Superintendent who has already made many visits to BFE. He has high expectations for our schools and as usual we expect to go BEYOND EXPECTATIONS, as our motto states. We also welcome many new staff members to our BFE family. I believe that we have assembled one of the finest faculties possible and am looking forward to us reaching all of our goals for students’ success.

We are fortunate to add these talented, committed educators to our BFE Family.

  Have you read the BFE Student/Parent Handbook?? Reviewing the Handbook with your child will help you and your child to know the expectations of our school. Basic policies and guidelines are included in the hope that we can solve problems before they arise. When the school and the parents work together, a child’s potential for success is greatly multiplied.     

  This year we are beginning each staff professional development with writing prompts. We expect to do the same with our families. Please come to the first Title I Parent Meeting where we will be writing our Family Mission Statements.
