Charlotte L. Matthew, M.Ed., Principal Dr. Ramona J. Perkins, A.P. Fourth Quarter - Finish Strong
Do you realize there are only seventeen school days in April and only fourteen in May, too??? The end of the school year will be here before you know it. We are getting busier and busier as our school days are numbered. Please talk with your child about the importance of staying organized and on top of school assignments. The fourth quarter can make a big difference in a student’s yearly average. Some students are working very hard to bring up their academic average. Some students are not paying enough attention to their academics and may hurt their yearly average. In elementary schools, the only grades that are recorded on the cumulative folder are the end of year averages for promotional subjects. Please make sure your child is doing everything possible to have a positive fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter Testing School Improvement Screen-Free Week Did you know that the average family spends 4-5 hours every day watching TV but only 35 minutes having a meaningful conversation? And that’s just TV, what about video games, apps on phones and iPads?? Screen-Free Week (April 29 - May 5, 2013) is a national celebration where children, families, schools, and whole communities turn off entertainment screen media (TV, video games, apps, etc.) and spend time playing, creating, reading, exploring nature, and enjoying family and friends. There are a wide range of possibilities open to them when the television/media is not a part of their lives. Take the screen free week challenge and see what adventures await! Congratulations to Mrs. Terrie Willard, fourth grade mathematics teacher, who has been selected as a recipient of the 2014 Benjamin Banneker Association Exemplary Mathematics Educator Award.
